Origanum dictamnus, known in Greek as Δίκταμο (Diktamo) is a perennial aromatic plant that grows wild only on the Greek Island of Crete. It is known by a variety of names including Dictamnus Creticus, Dittany of Crete, Dittany, Diktamo, Eronda, Crete Dittany and Cretan Dittany.

Origanum dictamnus is endemic to Crete and is from the Lamiaceae family of the genus Origanum and naturally grows wild on the cliffs, gorges and rocky locations of Crete.

 

It grows in all parts of the island and in all the districts of Chania, Rethymnon, Heraklion and Lassithi.

It grows in the famous Gorge of Samaria and other smaller gorges in the White Mountains as well as in the other mountain ranges of Crete including Mount Dikti.
