April in Crete...
April in Crete is such a lovely time as the wild flowers are blooming on the hillsides, including whole fields of wild irises and orchids. Crete is famous for its orchids at this time of year, with many visitors orchid hunting around the island. Some of the Crete orchids are very rare and endemic only to the Greek island of Crete.

April is also the time when the birdlife is at its best and again many birdwatchers flock to the island at this time of year to admire the birds. The swallows are back swooping through the villages of Crete and goldfinches and chaffinches chatter in the olive trees and the almond trees.
The fist new leaves are beginning to shoot through on the many vines that grow on the island. Cretan wine is very good and not so expensive as some of the better known wine producing countries such as France, Italy, Australia and California.
April is also the time when the big celebration of Easter happens and the fist flurry of tourists flock to the island.
